SUMMARY OF POSITION:
We seek a visionary Chief Scientific Officer to drive our preclinical development efforts to advance novel cancer immunotherapies. At Beyond Cancer™, we’re focused on harnessing the power of ultra-high-concentration nitric oxide (UNO) to engage the immune system and prevent solid tumor metastases and relapse with our proprietary technology. It’s an innovative, targeted treatment approach with immunogenic results. At the patient level, our goal is to provide cancer patients and their families with the confidence that their disease will not recur or metastasize. On a global scale, we’re poised to potentially reduce a leading cause of death – cancer.

The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) will define and execute a scientific research roadmap. In this pivotal role, you will leverage a team of talented scientists and engineers and build internal and external R&D programs to support relevant company objectives. This role includes setting administrative and preclinical policy, coordinating the technical and support staff’s activities, providing technical direction and interpretations, and performing critical evaluations of new and existing procedures. This role will report to the Chief Executive Officer. The CSO will be a key member of Beyond Cancer’s Executive Team and a partner with the CEO in executing a broader vision focused on UNO’s potential impact on patient care.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Scientific Strategy: Drive the development of the scientific strategy for the preclinical development of our cancer immunotherapy program, aligning it with the overall corporate objectives and therapeutic goals.
  • Research Planning and Execution: Oversee the design, planning, and execution of preclinical studies, including in vitro and in vivo experiments, to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and mechanism of action of immunotherapeutic candidates.
  • Scientific Leadership: Develop collaborative relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in therapeutic areas of interest to establish foundational preclinical data sets providing new insights and pathways for therapeutic intervention.
  • Biomarker Development: Lead development of disease model biomarker data and integrated workflows for preclinical assays. 
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices in preclinical research, and contribute to the preparation of regulatory submissions as required.
  • Collaboration: Maintain partnerships with Contract Research Organizations to establish Beyond Cancer’s platform development
  • Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of scientists, providing scientific expertise, professional development opportunities, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Leads the Beyond Cancer Scientific Advisory Board, conducting periodic SAB meetings.
  • Represents Beyond Cancer globally at scientific meetings and at summits on Nitric Oxide therapy.
  • Leads a team of talented scientists, growing top talent and attracting top scientific talent to Beyond Cancer.
  • Provides support to operations in responding to client requests that require scientific and/or regulatory requests.
  • Participates in and prepares responses to both internal and external technical and quality assurance audits as required.
  • Participates in industry technical and trade groups to enhance the company’s image as an industry leader, generate new business leads, and strengthen market intelligence.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications / Skills / Competencies / Experience

  • Highly accomplished scientific leader with a passion for research and a desire to make impact in the field of Nitric Oxide
  • PhD (MD/PhD preferred), with 15+ years as academic faculty and/or Pharma/Biotech executive with drug development experience, early through late stage development, including the design and conduct of clinical studies, and filing experience in oncology.
  • Prior experience leadig an R&D therapeutic area and have broad R&D functional experience and understanding from a global perspective.
  • Must possess superior leadership and communication skills and have the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary department.
  • Expertise in translational research and experience with preclinical medical device development in these and/or other areas
  • Strong publication track record
  • Track record of successfully developing therapies
  • Ability to mentor and grow scientific talent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate between business leaders, scientists and medical professionals
  • Provide guidance to C-Suite on industry trends.
  • Identify subject matters (both technical and service-driven) for potential publication, presentation, etc., that help showcase the technical and scientific expertise and dedication to customer service.
